General information
The aim of this project is to develop a science-based strategy for monitoring and controlling the growing threat of invasive species in Armenia. By combining invasive species risk analysis, horizontal screening of potential invasions, early warning systems and advanced monitoring technologies, the project will contribute to biodiversity conservation. The study includes the following steps:
1) compilation and validation of a national inventory of alien species through database analysis and expert consultations;
2) conducting a risk assessment using AS-ISK/TS-ISK protocols calibrated for Armenian ecosystems;
3) development of genetic monitoring tools, including DNA barcoding and spatial modeling;
4) translation of the results into practical recommendations.
A coordinated management system for biological invasions will contribute to the protection of not only the country's rich biodiversity, but also the economy of Armenia and public health.
