Chair of Regional Geology and Mineral Exploration

The Chair of Regional Geology and Mineral Exploration was established in 2019 based on the Chairs of Mineralogy, Petrology, and Geochemistry, Historical and Regional Geology and Mineral Exploration and Exploration. Prominent geologists of the Republic taught and conducted research in the Chair, among them were academicians of the Armenian Academy of Sciences A. H. Gabrielyan, H. G. Maghakyan, R. T. Jrbashyan, S. S. Mkrtchyan, and honored geologist of ASSR, professor H. H. Sargsyan.

Since 2019, the head of the Chair of Regional Geology and Mineral Exploration is Ph.D.  Shahen Khachatryan.

Today, the Chair continues to maintain the most important fundamental directions of geological science, such as petrography, metallogenesis, geotectonics, mineral exploration and exploration, geochemistry, regional geology, and archeology.

Within the framework of educational programs, specialists with scientific production and pedagogical experience, using modern information technologies, organize the learning process.

The Chair's focus is on the rational use of mineral resources, the legislative fields of the RA subsoil use and environmental protection, the discussion of geo-environmental problems related to the waste of extraction and processing of metal mineral deposits, and the development of measures aimed at their solution. In this regard, work is being done on the modeling of tailings as a secondary raw material, the evaluation of the quality and quantity of useful components, their economic evaluation, and the clarification of their industrial significance.

Professional subjects include and cover the entire process of searching and exploring mineral deposits, from the geological survey and mapping of the research area to the geological-economic evaluation of the deposits.

The Chair implements the "Geology" (Undergraduate) and the "Geology and Exploration of the Russian Academy of Sciences" (Master's) educational programs.
