The third issue of The [Modern] Working Woman of Armenia newspaper was launched at Yerevan State University through a collaboration between the YSU Sarkis and Marie Izmirlian Library and the Women's Fund Armenia. The event centered on the publication's latest articles, which highlight the challenges faced by women and systemically marginalized groups in contemporary society.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by Avetik Mejlumyan, Director of the YSU Sarkis and Marie Izmirlian Library, and Gohar Shahnazaryan, Founder and Director of the Women's Fund Armenia.
Armine Markosyan, Communications Officer at the Women's Fund Armenia, noted that the newspaper is intended as a platform for women to raise issues of concern. She also outlined the open calls through which women can apply to the foundation to publish their work.
The authors then presented their articles, followed by an engaging and substantive discussion. Notably, this third issue is the first to include English translations alongside the original articles. Key topics covered include barriers to women's employment, the integration of forcibly displaced women from Artsakh into the labor market, the organization of beauty contests and prevailing beauty standards, among others.
Discussions also touched upon a new initiative designed primarily for women over the age of 50, for whom finding employment at that stage of life is particularly challenging. Through their own efforts to combat waste, these women are working to develop textile recycling, a field that currently lacks a systemic solution in Armenia. The initiative is being implemented by the Late NGO.
The event was attended by representatives of Yerevan State University and the Women's Fund Armenia, as well as members of various non-governmental organizations and other guests.
