Laboratory of Applied Social Pedagogy opens at YSU
The Laboratory of Applied Social Pedagogy has opened at the YSU Pedagogy and Education Development Center with a view to enhancing the practical training of future social pedagogues and expanding opportunities to apply art therapy methods.
The laboratory was established with the sponsorship of the Yeremyan Group of Companies and is designed to help students in social pedagogy translate theoretical knowledge into practical skills and gain experience in applying modern methods of correctional and rehabilitative work.
YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and Davit Yeremyan, Founder and CEO of the Yeremyan Group of Companies, highlighted the importance of university-employer cooperation in aligning professional education with labor market needs and strengthening students' professional preparation.
In his remarks, YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan emphasized the important role the laboratory will play in the development of pedagogical education in Armenia.
"One of the government's priorities is the development of pedagogical education in line with European standards. Therefore, this initiative received our approval and support from the outset," the YSU rector said.
Davit Yeremyan, Founder and CEO of the Yeremyan Group of Companies, said: "Over the 20 years of its activity, the Yeremyan Group of Companies has always placed importance on supporting education and educational programs. When education and business can move forward together and cooperate, good ideas and valuable initiatives emerge. This laboratory is a testament to that. We are confident that our cooperation will continue."
Professor Nazik Harutyunyan, Director of Pedagogy and Education Development Center, highlighted the importance of establishing a laboratory at the university in line with international standards. She emphasized its role in connecting theoretical and practical training and improving the effectiveness of work with children with special educational needs.
Laboratory Head Associate Professor Lusine Hayrapetyan presented the laboratory's art therapy areas, including sand therapy, clay therapy, mandala therapy, music therapy, doll therapy, art therapy and isotherapy.
During a tour of the laboratory, the participants were also introduced to the specific applications of these methods and their potential for addressing various challenges. Student demonstrations were an important part of the event. Future social pedagogues practically modeled different stages of correctional work, demonstrating how relevant therapeutic techniques can be used when working with children with different developmental challenges.
The establishment of the Applied Social Pedagogy Laboratory creates new opportunities for social pedagogy education, enabling students to combine professional knowledge with practical experience and the application of modern art therapy techniques.
