Young researchers from around the world on one platform: YSU SSS international conference opens
The 12th International Youth Conference of the YSU Student Scientific Society (SSS), dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia, has opened. The conference has brought together young researchers from Armenia and beyond to present their research, take part in professional discussions and establish new academic connections.
This year's conference stands out not only for the broad geographical range of participants but also for the unprecedented number of applications submitted. A total of 296 applications were received, including 54 from abroad. Following academic review, around 182 researchers from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Iran, France, Morocco, Egypt, the United States, Uruguay and other countries were selected.
YSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Elina Asriyan welcomed the conference participants, emphasizing the importance of asking questions in research.
"Science and research begin with questions, with the ability to ask questions and to challenge accepted truths. I want the answers you give during these days to raise new questions. I hope that these new questions and answers will help create a new future, because the future has not yet been written, and it is you who will shape it through your scientific thinking and research," Asriyan said.
YSU SSS President Davit Sargsyan also delivered welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony. He emphasized that the conference is not only a platform for presenting research but also for broader academic dialogue, cooperation and international ties. Referring to the activities of the SSS, Sargsyan noted that the organization continues to expand cooperation with international universities, research institutions and Armenian communities in the Diaspora, with a view to presenting Armenian scholarly thought on international platforms.
"Science knows no borders. We continue establishing new ties with international universities and institutions in different parts of the world, as well as with Armenian communities in the Diaspora, to present Armenian scholarly thought on international platforms," he said.
This year's opening ceremony also provided an opportunity to reflect on the history of the SSS and recognize those who have contributed to the organization's development. During the event, the title of Honorary Member of the SSS was awarded to members who have made a significant contribution to the establishment and development of the society while upholding its values and principles.
The official part of the event was followed by a musical program featuring patriotic songs performed by singers Shushan Petrosyan and Leyla Saribekyan.
The conference will continue through October 9. Over the course of the event, students, doctoral candidates and young researchers will present their research results, take part in professional discussions, and visit historical and cultural sites in Armenia, laying the groundwork for new academic collaborations. The conference's closing ceremony will be held at the Matenadaran.
