Uruguayan Ambassador Silvana Lesca Barolin visits YSU
Yerevan State University hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to Armenia, Silvana Lesca Barolin. As part of her visit, the ambassador met with YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan to discuss the prospects for deepening academic cooperation and expanding academic ties between the two countries.

During the meeting between YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and newly appointed Ambassador Silvana Lesca Barolin, opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations in the fields of education, science, and culture were discussed. Hovhannes Hovhannisyan presented the history of YSU, its educational and research capacities, and its vision for expanding international partnerships. He emphasized that YSU is open to implementing joint programs and promoting the exchange of experience.

"YSU is the largest higher education institution in Armenia in terms of student body and faculty, as well as the scope of its scientific and academic programs. Last year alone, YSU scholars published around 700 articles in international scientific journals, marking an increase of nearly 70% compared to the previous year. This is a testament to the university’s steadily growing academic potential. Moreover, YSU is leading seven Erasmus+ programs, which allows us to cooperate with both European and Armenian universities and to promote international academic mobility among students and faculty," noted the rector, adding that the university also prioritizes improving the quality of its educational programs. Currently, six mathematics programs at YSU are undergoing international accreditation by the German ASIIN agency.
Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan also highlighted that, through state financial support in recent years, YSU has been equipped with modern scientific instruments, which have significantly enhanced the university’s research capabilities.
In her remarks, Ambassador Silvana Lesca Barolin emphasized Uruguay’s commitment to academic and scientific cooperation and expressed her country’s readiness to foster collaborative ties between Armenian and Uruguayan higher education institutions. She inquired about YSU educational programs and the opportunities available for learning the Spanish language.

"We would like to promote partnership ties between our universities. The dissemination of the Spanish language is important for us, and we would be pleased to participate in initiatives aimed at advancing Spanish language education in Armenia. Given the geographic distance between our countries, cooperation can be implemented through both exchange visits and online events. We are open to collaborating with Yerevan State University to make bilateral educational relations more substantive and sustainable," concluded the ambassador.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Silvana Lesca Barolin toured the Chair of Romance Philology at YSU Faculty of European Languages and Communication, where she was introduced to the educational process, academic programs, and current methods of Spanish language teaching.
The meeting evolved into a platform of mutual trust and understanding, paving the way for the implementation of various joint programs and the development of cooperation in multiple formats. Both parties expressed a commitment to taking practical steps towards maintaining active communication and to realizing the initiatives discussed.
