New achievements at 57th International Chemistry Olympiad
The 57th International Chemistry Olympiad, held in Dubai, became yet another platform for success for Armenian students. The team representing Armenia earned one silver medal and three letters of commendation in the competition. The Armenian team was led by YSU Andranik Davinyan, a lecturer at Yerevan State University, and Artyom Petrosyan, a master’s student at YSU Faculty of Chemistry.

The competition, held from July 5 to 14, brought together approximately 355 students from 90 countries. Armenia was represented by four high school students from Vanadzor, Gyumri, and Yerevan.
At the International Chemistry Olympiad, Arman Kharatyan, a 12th-grade student at the Vanadzor Special School with Advanced Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences, won a silver medal. Certificates were awarded to Davit Ghazaryan, a 12th-grade student at the Quantum College in Yerevan; Sevada Harutyunyan, a 12th-grade student at the Photon College in Gyumri; and Mikayel Aleksanyan, an 11th-grade student at the Vanadzor Special School with Advanced Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
The leaders of the Armenian team were Andranik Davinyan, lecturer at YSU and researcher at the Scientific Technological Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, and Artyom Petrosyan, master’s student at YSU Faculty of Chemistry.
Leader of the team Andranik Davinyan, speaking about Armenia's participation in the Olympiad, noted:
"Armenia has been participating in the International Chemistry Olympiad since 2006. This year’s event stood out in that the laboratory phase was conducted not in the traditional format, but in a large expo center hall, which made the Olympiad distinct from previous years. This ensured that all students competed under equally standardized conditions. I would also like to mention that before departure, we organized an intensive training phase to maximize the students’ chances of achieving high results."
Junior team leader Artyom Petrosyan, commenting on the structure of the Olympiad’s tasks, emphasized: "The questions were well-balanced, offering a good combination of both difficult and easier tasks. Throughout the Olympiad, our responsibilities as team leaders included translating the materials and inspecting the experimental equipment."
Arman Kharatyan, silver medalist of the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad, reflecting on his experience, stated: "Although there were certain challenges in both the theoretical and experimental stages, I was able to overcome them successfully. The tasks were interesting and, overall, manageable. I hope that in the future, I will be able to assist the new generation with the experience I have gained."
