Ecological values as foundation of initiative: Volunteer clean-up day organized
A volunteer clean-up day was recently organized in the area of the Circular Park through the initiative of the Chair of Ecology and Nature Protection at YSU Faculty of Biology. The event aimed to develop students’ ecological knowledge, engage them in environmental processes, and foster a sense of responsibility and care toward nature and the environment.

The clean-up was designed not only to contribute to the cleanliness of the city but also to raise awareness among students and the public about the importance of environmental protection. Moreover, the initiative served as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between lecturers and students in an informal setting.
More than 30 students from various faculties of Yerevan State University, including representatives from the Student Council and the Student Scientific Society, took part in the initiative. The format of the event encouraged interaction and collaboration among students from diverse academic backgrounds, uniting them around shared ecological values.
Acting Head of the Chair of Ecology and Nature Protection, Ph.D. in Biology, Assistant Syuzanna Yesoyan, speaking on the importance and objectives of the clean-up, stated, "The clean-up had two main goals. First, to encourage a caring attitude toward nature among students. Although we constantly speak about environmental responsibility, we still sometimes encounter piles of garbage, cigarette butts, and broken glass in the city—items that, especially in summer, may pose a fire hazard. Such events are essential in preventing these issues. The second goal was to promote regular, responsible behavior toward the environment, both within the university and in the broader community. As the acting head of the chair, I consider environmental initiatives to be of vital importance. This clean-up was one of a series of such events, made possible through the active involvement of our chair’s staff and students."
Participants carried out necessary sanitation and cleaning work in the area, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship, civic responsibility, and collaborative effort in the protection of the environment.
