Professor Anahit Balabekyan awarded YSU Gold Medal
On the occasion of her 75th birthday, Professor Anahit Balabekyan, Head of the International Center for Advanced Studies at the Institute of Physics, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, was awarded the YSU Gold Medal by YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.
Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan commended Professor Balabekyan for her fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity, her dedicated work, and her significant contributions to the field of research. Citing her outstanding merit, the rector expressed gratitude and appreciation, wishing the professor boundless energy and continued success in her future endeavors.
Director of the Institute of Physics Khachatur Nerkaryan noted that Professor Balabekyan, distinguished by her high professional qualities, remains one of the institute's most active staff members. He emphasized her substantial contributions both in atomic and nuclear physics and in the education and mentoring of new generations. According to the director, her accomplishments significantly advanced both the university's scientific and educational environment and the pedagogical development of younger scholars.
Professor Balabekyan's colleagues, many of whom are also her students, highlighted her dedication, integrity, and high personal qualities, as well as her exceptional ability to integrate educational and scientific components in the teaching process.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Professor Balabekyan expressed her gratitude to Rector Hovhannisyan for recognizing and valuing her many years of tireless work and her contributions to the scientific community.
Professor Balabekyan's scientific interests, as well as methodological and pedagogical work cover nuclear reactions, fission processes, and issues related to radioactive waste management.
The formal award ceremony was also attended by YSU Vice-Rector Mikayel Hovhannisyan, Academic Secretary Meri Hovhannisyan, and Acting Head of the Chair of Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics Armen Tumasyan.
