Another step toward the international scientific arena: New scientific journal launched at YSU
Through the joint initiative of Karen Ghazaryan, Dean of the YSU Faculty of Biology, Doctor of Biological Sciences, and Abhishek Singh, researcher at the Laboratory of Applied Ecology and Environmental Studies of the Research Institute of Biology, a new international scientific journal titled Journal of Innovative Solutions for Eco-Environmental Sustainability has been created and has already been published.
The journal features high-quality, cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews that address pressing challenges in environmental sustainability through innovative, interdisciplinary approaches. It presents research articles, analytical reviews, short communications, and editorials on topics related to ecology, environmental management, and innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
According to Karen Ghazaryan, Armenia has previously had scientific journals with a biological and ecological focus; however, most of them have not been able to withstand international competition over time.
"Our objective was to create a new-quality scientific platform with clearly defined standards and the prospect of inclusion in international scientific databases. From the outset, we set high standards and aimed to ensure that the journal would be indexed in prominent international databases. Today, the strong interest in the journal is evident from the number of submissions received from various countries around the world," he notes.
The newly established journal applies a double-blind peer-review mechanism. Within just a few months, more than 20 articles from different countries were submitted for publication, of which only one or two were submitted from Armenia. Five of the submitted works (including research, review, and editorial articles) successfully passed the double-blind peer-review process and were published in the inaugural issue.
According to Abhishek Singh, the conceptual core of the journal lies in applied and advanced solutions.
"We aim to address environmental challenges not only from a theoretical perspective but also through practical solutions. We have selected fields in which we possess scientific expertise—namely, the application of modern approaches in biology, nanotechnology, and environmental management—while remaining open to all research that offers sustainable and innovative solutions," he emphasizes.
It is planned to publish four issues per year, each containing five to ten articles. The editorial board aims to be indexed in Scopus and other reputable international databases as early as 2027.
The Editors-in-Chief of the journal are Karen Ghazaryan and Abhishek Singh. The editorial team includes field editors, technical staff, and editorial assistants from various countries. One member of the editorial board represents Armenia (the YSU Chair of Ecology and Nature Conservation, YSU), while the other members are representatives of different countries.
The main organizational and scientific activities of the journal are carried out through cooperation between the YSU Chair of Ecology and Nature Conservation and international partners, while the publication is organized by the YSU Publishing House.
The editorial team also plans to continue publishing special issues dedicated to various conferences or specific ecological problems. There are already international partners and conference organizers interested in publishing their scientific work in the journal.
The Journal of Innovative Solutions for Eco-Environmental Sustainability aims to become a highly ranked, internationally competitive scientific platform, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge aimed at solving ecological challenges and facilitating the presentation of Armenia's scientific potential to the international scientific community.
The first special issue of the journal was published within the framework of the international conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Faculty of Biology and the 10th anniversary of the Research Institute of Biology, held in September 2025.
