Members of YSU Board of Trustees tour university facilities
Members of the YSU Board of Trustees toured the university's faculties and institutes, visiting newly established research and teaching centers and laboratories, renovated classrooms equipped with modern technology, and other scientific and educational units.
The visit began at the Institute of Physics, where the members toured the Center for Optics and Photonics, established with funding from the Armenian Higher Education and Science Committee, the Competitive Innovation Fund, and YSU. At the Center for Materials Science and Nanotechnology, the BoT members were briefed on ongoing research projects and the available material and technical resources.
At the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, the members familiarized themselves with renovated infrastructures of research and educational units, modern classrooms, lecture halls, and reading rooms, which enhance the effectiveness of both teaching and research processes.
The next stop was the Faculty of Geography and Geology, where the BoT members visited the "GeoLab: Environment of Future" education center and the Gagik Karapetyan Interactive Classroom, offering students opportunities to participate in theoretical, laboratory, and practical courses within a modern educational environment.
The members then toured the Chair of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, where they were acquainted with the work carried out in the teaching laboratories, the opportunities offered by new equipment, ongoing research projects, and upcoming initiatives.
Next, the BoT visited the Faculty of Biology, where YSU has established three newly renovated and modernized laboratories funded by the university: Fungi, Plant Diversity, and Bioactivity Assessment, Histology and Developmental Biology, and Molecular Genetics. These laboratories were established to provide favorable conditions for research and to enhance students' professional skills.
During the visit, the members also toured the newly established Data Processing Center, where they were briefed on the wide-ranging opportunities offered by the supercomputer and its applications in both scientific research and educational processes.
Familiarizing themselves with the ongoing research programs, laboratory facilities, and research directions, the BoT members discussed the progress of educational and research activities, the material and technical resources, and development priorities.
During the tour, YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan presented the projects and programs being implemented in the educational and research units, highlighting the achievements and outlining future plans. Discussions focused on improving the quality of education, promoting research activities, and exploring opportunities to expand operational resources.
BoT members participating in the visit/tour included Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of Armenia; Hovhannes Movsisyan, Executive Director of the Public Television; Narine Khachatryan, Head of the Chair of Personality Psychology at YSU; Anna Poladyan, Head of the Chair of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Biotechnology at YSU; and Hayk Kocharyan, Head of the Chair of Arabic Studies at YSU.
