Prospects for mining in Armenia: Hayasa Metals Inc. CEO delivers lecture at YSU
Joel Sutherland, CEO of the Canadian company Hayasa Metals Inc., delivered a lecture at the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology, sharing new insights on the mining sector with students, faculty members, and industry professionals.
The event, organized by the Sustainable Development Center of the Faculty of Geography and Geology, featured two presentations by Joel Sutherland: "Geological Exploration: Unlocking the Country's Potential" and "Investment Opportunities in the Mining Sector for Developing Countries". In his lectures, he highlighted Armenia's potential and investment opportunities in the mining sector.
According to Joel Sutherland's analysis, although Armenia lies within the Tethyan belt and its mining resources are not yet fully explored, the country possesses significant potential for growth in the sector. He emphasized the importance of expanding geological exploration in Armenia to increase the export of mineral resources.
The speaker also discussed the World Bank's projections for mineral exports and addressed global trends in copper sales, noting the increasing demand and prices for metals driven by the rise in technological applications and energy consumption. Furthermore, he introduced Hayasa Metals Inc., emphasizing that it is the largest geological exploration company in Armenia, managing two major projects: the Vardenis Project (copper, molybdenum) and the Urasar Project (gold, copper).
Sutherland has more than 20 years of extensive experience in international capital markets. Hayasa Metals Inc. collaborates in Armenia with Mendia Resources and Hayasa Resources Corp., contributing to the development of the mining sector and the expansion of investment opportunities.
Last year, the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology signed a memorandum of understanding with the above-mentioned companies and is steadily implementing the agreed collaborative initiatives.
