Armenian speaker of parliament visits YSU research centers and meets students
Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan visited Yerevan State University. During his visit, he toured several faculties and research centers, familiarizing himself with recent infrastructure improvements, newly established research centers, laboratories equipped with modern technology, and renovated classrooms across the university.
The visit began at the YSU Institute of Physics, where Speaker Simonyan toured the Center for Optics and Photonics and the Center for Materials Science and Nanotechnologies. During the visit, ongoing research programs, available technical resources, and their potential integration into educational and scientific processes were presented.
Simonyan then toured the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics, where he was introduced to renovated facilities, technologically enhanced classrooms, and the academic and research environment that contributes to the more effective organization of students' learning and research activities.
He also visited the YSU Sarkis and Marie Izmirlian Library. The first floor of the library has been renovated and furnished with the support of the Izmirlian Foundation and now serves students in a fully transformed space featuring modern solutions and a new functional layout. As part of the renovation, the infrastructure was significantly improved, including the reconstruction of the first-floor lobby and the modernization of the lighting system.
During the walkthrough, YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan presented the projects and programs being implemented in the university's educational and scientific units, highlighting their achievements and outlining future plans. The discussions also focused on priorities for improving the quality of education, ways to promote research activities, and opportunities for expanding human resources.
Following the tour, Simonyan met with YSU students. Reflecting on his time as a student at the YSU Faculty of Law, he noted that he always recalls his university years with great fondness.
"I greatly enjoy my profession and take pleasure in my work. Parliamentary activity, both within the building of the National Assembly and beyond the borders of Armenia, is very close to my heart. I also really enjoy communicating with journalists and media representatives. When interacting with them, and when speaking with people in general, the most essential tools are sincerity and honesty," he said.
During the meeting, Simonyan also addressed issues related to political activity, international relations, democracy, and state sovereignty, emphasizing the need for active youth participation. He highlighted the importance of critical thinking, freedom of expression, and engagement in public processes.
The meeting was held in a question-and-answer format, providing students with the opportunity to raise and discuss topics of interest.
