YSU shooting team secures first place at Armenian Student Sports Games
The YSU shooting team secured first place at the 27th Armenian Student Sports Games, held at the university's shooting range. The championship brought together teams from seven of the country's leading higher education institutions.
The participating universities included Yerevan State University, the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, Vanadzor State University, the Armenian State University of Economics, the National Agrarian University of Armenia, the European University, and the French University in Armenia.
The competitions were conducted according to international standards, with athletes shooting from a distance of 10 meters in a standing position. In the team competition, each university was represented by six athletes—three women and three men.
The YSU team dominated both the men's and women's competitions, securing the top team award and continuing the university's tradition of athletic excellence at the Student Sports Games.
The event also featured an individual championship. In the women's competition, Ani Gabrielyan, a fourth-year student at the YSU Institute of Physics, took first place. In the men's individual contest, third-year Physics student Gor Badalyan took third place.
According to the team coach, Vladimir Avagimyants, Head of the YSU Chair of Physical Education and Sports, the team comprises students from different faculties, ranging from first-year bachelor's to PhD students. He emphasized that training not only develops professional skills but also builds a cohesive team capable of achieving high results and representing the university with honor.
The tournament was overseen by referee Volodya Badalyan, invited by the Armenian Shooting Federation. Present at the event were also Hovhannes Gabrielyan, President of the Student Sports Federation, and representatives of the Shooting Sports School, who supported the organizational process.
Final team rankings were determined based on the combined scores of sighting and competition shots. YSU emerged as the overall champion, followed by the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture and Sport in second place, and Vanadzor State University in third.
