YSU facilitates safe return of students from Kuwait
YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan recently hosted the returning students, who had been studying at the Language Center of Kuwait University as part of an interuniversity educational program.
Due to the recent developments in the region and the subsequent closure of Kuwait's airspace, approximately 33 citizens of the Republic of Armenia —including eight students from the "Arabic Studies" program at the YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies—petitioned the Armenian Embassy for assistance in returning home. Under these circumstances, Yerevan State University, in cooperation with relevant authorities, undertook the necessary measures to facilitate and organize the students' return to Armenia.
According to official data, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Kuwait facilitated the return of nine Armenian citizens via the Kuwait–Riyadh–Tbilisi–Yerevan route. The ground transportation segment of the journey was provided free of charge. The group of returning citizens included YSU students.
Despite the emergency situation, the students are continuing their studies remotely and will receive relevant certification from Kuwait University upon completion of the program.
According to Hayk Kocharyan, Head of the Chair of Arabic Studies at the YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, the students are currently on academic leave. While a full resumption of their educational process at YSU is not yet possible, the faculty has provided them with the opportunity to attend classes if they wish.
The students emphasized that, in these circumstances, the university’s consistent support and care were of great importance to them, and they remained confident they would return safely and continue their studies.
Within the same interuniversity educational program, a group of YSU students is currently studying in Qatar, Jordan, and Cairo, where the educational process continues in accordance with the established curriculum.
