Three-day teacher training at Yerevan State University
Within the framework of the ERASMUS+ project ““PROVE”: Promoting Values Education in Higher Education Institutions of the South Caucasus,” a training programme for teachers of general education schools of the Republic of Armenia was held at Yerevan State University (YSU) on 6-8 May of the current year, on the topic of “Values and Knowledge Education” (VaKE) - a distinctive educational approach that coherently integrates value based and inquiry based learning.
The training was delivered by Serob Khachatryan, Lecturer at the Department of History, Theory and Logic of Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology, YSU, and an expert in education. The main objective of the training was to acquaint participants with the conceptual foundations and characteristics of value based education. Particular emphasis was placed on how subject content may be used as an instrument for the formation of values, and on how general education institutions, teachers in particular, can foster students' critical thinking and prepare socially responsible and ethically conscious individuals. The speaker also addressed the phases of the VaKE, from the initial “dilemma narrative” to the information gathering and final argumentation. Throughout the training, participants acquired not only theoretical knowledge but also had the opportunity to apply it in practice through active discussions, surveys, and the resolution of diverse dilemmas.
Upon the conclusion of the three-day training, participants confirmed that the training had been highly intensive and engaging, and expressed confidence in their ability to apply the acquired knowledge both in their everyday life and in the conduct of classroom instruction.
