STUDENTS AND GRADUATES OF THE MASTER'S PROGRAM "GENOCIDE" PARTICIPATED IN THE COURSE OF THE METHODOLOGY SCHOOL

The main goal of the Methodology School is to equip Armenian Master’s and Ph.D. students with research skills. A group of specialists, who participated in the course organized by the AEF methodology specialist, transferred the knowledge they gained to the students.

This school was special, apart from the main methodological topics; it had a focus on the topic of Genocide: including lectures on genocide studies methodology.

The Genocide studies topic was included in the course on the initiative of the "Genocide" master's program, Ph.D. Suren Manukyan. He invited students from different years of the program to develop their professional skills.

During the seminars, S. Manukyan presented the modern directions and topics of genocide studies, which are observed in different genocide studies chairs around the world and which should also be the focus of attention of Armenian genocide scholars.

A graduate of the program, and candidate of historical sciences Robert Sukiasyan, who was recently at the University of Southern California as a Fulbright visiting researcher, presented information on the Armenian Genocide from Armenian and foreign sources, archival and published materials, and oral stories.

Professor Petros Ter-Matosyan of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, spoke about the problems faced by specialists in the field, especially comparative genocide studies, and Aishenur Korkmaz from the University of Amsterdam presented the features of working with survivors' memoirs.

Participant of the program, a graduate of YSU IAS "Genocide" master's program, Ph.D. student Ruzanna Gasparyan told us that participation in the Methodology School course greatly helped in the application of new approaches in the dissertation and contributed to the development of quality research activities of her as a junior researcher at IAS. She singled out the skills that contribute to effective research.

According to Suren Manukyan, the program was a great opportunity not only to learn, and acquire new skills but also to discuss the research projects that young genocide researchers are working on, to make them more professional, in-depth, up-to-date, and in line with international standards.

Another important task is the creation of a network of graduates of the "Genocide" master's program of the YSU Institute of Armenian Studies, through which young scientists, getting to know each other, will have the opportunity to implement joint projects and help the development of this branch of science in Armenia.
