The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is considered the most prestigious and recognized student competition in international commercial arbitration. Its primary objective is to promote the study of international commercial law and arbitration among students. The competition offers participants the opportunity not only to expand their knowledge in these areas but also to connect with distinguished academic experts and lawyers from world-renowned international organizations.
Teams from the YSU Faculty of Law have participated in this competition for many years, and this year is no exception.
From February 27 to March 1, the 15th annual pre-moot took place in Tbilisi, Georgia, featuring teams from various European and regional universities. The YSU Faculty of Law team competed in four matches against teams from the University of Tübingen (Germany), Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic), Free University of Tbilisi (Georgia), and Prince Sultan University (Saudi Arabia).
Following this, from March 2–6, the 6th annual pre-moot—organized with the support of the U.S. Department of Commerce Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP)—was held in Astana, Kazakhstan. This event brought together 24 teams from 17 countries. The YSU team participated by competing against teams from the American University of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan) and Baku State University (Azerbaijan).
The YSU team is composed of master's student Anush Karamyan, 3rd-year students Eleonora Tumanyan, Margarita Yegoyants, and Arpine Zohrabyan, coached by Tamara Ghazaryan and Erik Manukyan, both students of the "International Courts and Arbitration" master's program at the Faculty of Law.
Participation in these preliminary rounds serves as essential preparation for the main competition, which will take place in Vienna from March 27 to April 2. Approximately 400 universities, 2,500 students, and 1,100 arbitrators from around the world participate in the final rounds in Vienna.
We wish our students the best of luck.
