Lusine Hayrapetyan, Ela Minasyan and Ani Chakhoyan, experts at the Scientific and Educational Center for Control and Monitoring of the Quality of Medicines of the YSU Institute of Pharmacy, were on a research visit to Naples, Italy, from July 20 to 27.
The visit aimed to deepen scientific cooperation with the Institute of Polymers, Composites and Biomaterials (IPCB) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).
The travel expenses were partially covered by the "Research Support Program for Young Researchers – 2025" grant (No. 25YR-1D019). Professor Marino Lavorgna is the foreign partner of the grant project, while Lusine Hayrapetyan leads the Armenian research team.
During the visit, the Armenian specialists held key discussions with their Italian colleagues and also conducted experimental research.
Development of new sorbents
The discussions focused on the specific features of methacrylate synthesis on a silica gel support and methods for vancomycin immobilization. This work is important for developing chiral sorbents and their potential future applications.
Analysis of material properties
The parties jointly examined FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) data for the sorbent developed by the research team. TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) was also conducted, enabling an accurate assessment of the material's structural and thermal properties.
In addition to the experimental research, the parties outlined steps for further cooperation, discussing:
the organization of joint scientific research and publication of the results in international journals,
opportunities for joint participation in upcoming Armenian-Italian grant competitions,
organizational details of the Italian partner's planned return visit to Armenia.
The visit contributed both to the effective implementation of the current stages of the research and to creating a solid foundation for expanding Armenian-Italian scientific cooperation and exchanging international experience.
