On November 14–16 of this year, at the initiative of the YSU Institute for Armenian Studies (IAS), an autumn school titled "Training Armenian Studies Scholars: The Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and New Professional Methods in Armenian Studies" was held at the YSU Training and Production Base in Tsaghkadzor.
The event aimed to acquaint Armenian studies specialists with the possibilities of applying artificial intelligence tools and modern research methodologies, thereby further enhancing the efficiency and advancement of their studies.
The autumn school was opened by Vahram Petrosyan, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Director of the YSU Institute for Armenian Studies, who emphasized the importance of introducing innovative technologies into scholarly activity in the field of Armenian studies, as well as their application and further development.
On the first day of the program, a lecture was delivered by Associate Professor David Hayrapetyan, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, who presented the current realities of artificial intelligence from a psychological perspective. He addressed the characteristics of human–machine interaction and the psychological impact of AI, highlighting both its potential and its risks.
On the second day, Mariam Petrosyan delivered an extensive lecture presenting the concept of artificial intelligence and the possibilities of its application in the humanities, particularly in Armenian studies. Special attention was given to enhancing the practical skills of the institute's researchers. Accordingly, participants had the opportunity to apply the skills they had acquired by integrating new methods into their research through various AI tools.
The discussions also covered the potential uses of AI tools, their impact on the effectiveness of Armenian studies, as well as fundamental approaches to maintaining ethical standards when applying AI.
In addition to the staff of the YSU Institute for Armenian Studies, first-year students of the institute's "Genocide Studies" master's program also took part in the autumn school.
