
Aida B. Avanessian was born in Tabriz, Iran, received her LLB and LLM degrees (in private law) from University of Tehran and PhD from Kings College, University of London. Her experience in arbitration started with acting as council in arbitrations conducted through the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal and continued through her professional carrier as private practitioner covering also other fields such as project contracts and international financing. Her publications include Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in Action, book in English published in 1993 in London, England; Project Finance, book in Armenian, published in 2019, Yerevan, Armenia and Arbitration (National and International), book in Armenian published in 2021, Yerevan, Armenia.
Based in Armenia since 2013 she is a member of the Arbitrators Association of Armenia, a co-founder of the annual Mock Arbitration Competition organized through the ADR Clinic of the American University of Armenia and has conducted several training programs including training for arbitrators on conducting of arbitration proceedings and for trainee judges on principles of arbitration. Teaching experience includes lecturer at the American University of Armenia, teaching Project Financing and ADR Arbitration since 2015; lecturer at Hovaness Tumanyan State University of Vanadzor, teaching arbitration and private international law, 2016 to 2018, lecturer at the French University of Armenia, teaching ADR - Mediation and Arbitration, since 2018; and lecturer at Yerevan State University teaching Commercial Arbitration, 2023.
