The 2025 Siegman International School will be held in Yerevan from July 27 to August 2, organized through a joint initiative by YSU Photonics and AI Lab, the international organization OPTICA, and Free University of Brussels.
This prestigious week-long program offers students the opportunity to deeply explore the fundamentals of laser physics and the applications of lasers across various fields of science and technology. The school is named after Anthony Siegman, one of the pioneers of laser technology. Over a career spanning more than fifty years, Siegman became one of the founders of laser physics and a key contributor to numerous innovations in the field.
The first Siegman School was held in 2014 in Stanford, initiated by OPTICA and IPG Photonics. Over the past decade, the school has been organized in various prestigious institutions worldwide, including in Spain (ICFO), Germany (Max Planck Institute), Mexico (CIO), Denmark (DTU), the USA (University of Rochester, Stanford University), and Ireland (University College Dublin).
Every year, around 100 graduate students are invited to participate in the one-week program, during which internationally recognized scientists and representatives from leading industrial organizations deliver lectures. The Siegman International School on Lasers curriculum includes lectures on laser design, operational principles, nonlinear properties of active media from different origins, diverse applications, and current challenges in the field.
In addition, participants are given the opportunity to present their own research, scientific findings, and conclusions.
