From April 22 to 24, representatives of Yerevan State University (YSU) participated in the 7th Culinary and Wine Tourism Conference, an international conference on wine tourism held in Germany.
The conference was organized by Worms University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with Harz University of Applied Sciences, IU International University, and Vienna University of Applied Sciences. Held biennially since 2012 in different universities, the conference brings together leading researchers and practitioners to discuss key theoretical and applied issues in wine tourism.
YSU was represented by Gor Aleksanyan, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geology, and Seyran Suvaryan, Head of the Service Chair. The conference gathered around 30 researchers from more than 10 universities and tourism organizations.
The thematic scope of the conference included marketing, management, organizational development, and spatial aspects of wine tourism.
During the conference, Aleksanyan and Suvaryan presented their research paper titled "Geopolitics of Wine: Armenian Wine Tourism at the Regional and Global Levels." The study introduces innovative indices designed to measure the geopolitical weight of wine and the geopolitical significance of wine tourism. These tools enable comparative analysis across countries and highlight the strategic role of the wine sector. Particular attention was given to Armenia's position within the regional and global wine tourism landscape.
In addition to academic exchange, the conference served as a platform for strengthening international cooperation. Existing partnerships with Worms University of Applied Sciences and Jade University of Applied Sciences were reinforced, while new connections were established. The parties discussed opportunities for student and academic staff exchanges, joint research initiatives, and the potential organization of future editions of the conference at Yerevan State University.
The participation of YSU representatives in the conference was funded by Yerevan State University and the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation.
