Another phase of a cross-border academic initiative examining the geotourism resources of Armenia and Georgia has been completed.
As part of the international project "Geoheritage Inventory, E-Guide and Mobile App for Sustainable Tourism (Armenia and Georgia)," funded by the International Visegrad Fund, partners from the Silesian University of Technology in Poland, Professors Krzysztof Labus and Malgorzata Labus, visited Armenia and Georgia from July 27 to 31 this year. They spent July 27-29 in Armenia and July 30-31 in Georgia.
The visit aimed to finalize the methodological framework for preparing tourism-oriented descriptions of geoheritage sites and to conduct field studies at pre-selected locations.
The academic and theoretical work during the first part of the visit was organized at the YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology. Participants included the two Polish professors, project leader and Associate Professor Gor Aleksanyan, Head of the Chair of Service and Associate Professor Seyran Suvaryan, as well as project partners Professor Nodar Poporadze and Associate Professor Olga Seskuria from Georgian Technical University.
The field research took place from July 28 to 31. During this period, participants visited geoheritage sites in Armenia and Georgia, collecting the necessary information on the basis of the developed methodological framework and gaining insight into the potential, challenges and development prospects of geotourism in the region.
The visit also included discussions on the project's next steps, planned activities and deadlines, as well as other organizational matters.
