From October to November 2025, the YSU Faculty of Journalism hosted Professor Massimo Leone from the University of Turin, Italy.
Leone's visit was made possible through a 2022–2023 internal grant from YSU, headed by Professor Tigran Simyan, Acting Head of the Chair of Media Studies and Semiotics at the Faculty of Journalism.
Since 2005, Leone has served as a professor of communication philosophy, cultural and visual semiotics at the University of Turin's Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences. Since 2022, he has also been the head of the Center for Religious Studies at the Bruno Kessler Foundation in Trento. Leone is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, chief editor of Lexia Semiotic Journal, and co-editor of several academic series.
The lectures gave students practical experience in studying foreign media and introduced them to the semiotics of culture and urban space, with a focus on visual culture and its digital developments. These courses have not only served as a platform for knowledge transfer but also as an incentive for developing new research directions.
Such courses offer a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange, international cooperation, and professional growth.
