On April 17, 2026, the Faculty of Journalism of Yerevan State University hosted a scientific seminar on current research areas in media, visual culture, and memory studies.
Albert Elduque, a visiting researcher from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), gave a presentation. During the seminar, the researcher presented his research projects that combined interdisciplinary approaches, such as iconography and cultural studies, media communications, and digital humanities. Special attention was paid to the COREM (Collective Memory: Engaging Youth Through Curatorial Practices) project, which aims to rethink collective memory through the participation of adolescents (ages 11–16) and the development of new curatorial practices. The project focuses on the role of children and cultural institutions as active participants in the formation of historical knowledge about 20th-century genocides.
Albert Elduque also presented another research project analyzing visual representations in sports and media, examining the connections among images, power, and social structures through cinema, photojournalism, and archival materials. The project, called FUCAV-Football and Visual Culture Under Francoism, employs a wide range of methodologies, including sports sociology, iconology, star studies, gender studies, and critical theory.
Albert Elduque is a researcher in visual culture, cultural memory, and media. His research interests include collective memory, museum practices, and the role of visual representations in shaping public knowledge.
The seminar generated significant interest among students and faculty and served as an important platform for discussing modern research approaches and potential areas of international cooperation.
After the guest from Catalonia’s speech, the seminar also featured recent scientific publications by the heads of the departments, Professors David Petrosyan and Tigran Simyan, as well as by colleagues from both departments.
