On May 11, 2026, at the Faculty of Journalism of Yerevan State University, within the framework of a project from the Committee on Higher Education and Science Committee of the Republic of Armenia, Professor Kapitolina Fedorova gave lectures on the linguistic landscape of Estonia and the visualization of the Estonian epic in urban space.
The first lecture was devoted to the main problems of studying the linguistic landscape and ways to analyze the interaction of various discourses as media, visual, cultural, and social.
The second lecture focused on visualizing the heroes of the Estonian epic “Kalevipoeg”. During the lecture, examples of the representation of epic characters across different cities in Estonia were presented, along with the techniques by which the national epic is visually embodied in urban environments.
The lectures were held in a warm and productive atmosphere. They were attended not only by students of the Faculty of Journalism but also by teachers, including representatives of media studies and semiotics.
Professor Kapitolina Fedorova visited Yerevan State University as part of the project Daredevils of Sassoun in Art and Socio-political Discourse: Social Memory, Identity, Typology, and Multimodality [project number 24SSAH-6B014].
The Faculty defines its gratitude to Professor Fedorova for her informative lectures and for her contributions to expanding scientific perspectives on the linguistic landscape and its representation in the media and visual culture. «Her performances have become an important incentive for a deeper understanding of how different discourses – media, epic, visual, and urban – interact to form cultural meanings», noted the Dean of the Faculty, Nagash Martirosyan.
