From October 27-31 of this year, the Faculty of Russian Philology at Yerevan State University hosted professional development courses for lecturers under the theme "Methodology of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language in the Absence of a Language Environment".
Among the participants were 30 faculty members, as well as master's students and graduates already working in schools. The knowledge gained will be directly applicable in their teaching practice.
The courses were organized jointly by Dean of YSU Faculty of Russian Philology Diana Gazarova, the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Yerevan, and the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia, one of Russia's leading institutions in the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language.
The program was delivered in two formats: online (during the first week) and in-person (during the second week). The course covered active processes in the Russian language, new textbooks and manuals for teaching Russian as a foreign language, and methods for developing communicative and socio-cultural competencies through interactive and game-based approaches.
The course instructor was Associate Professor Yelena Smoli from the Department of General and Russian Linguistics at the Faculty of Philology, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.
"My colleagues impressed me with their highest level of preparedness. They are true professionals who thoroughly understand their work, ask many questions, and show genuine interest in the topics of our sessions," she said.
The courses were organized in cooperation with YSU Center for Continuing Education and represent an important step in strengthening collaboration between the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Yerevan and the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.
