On November 10, 2025, a round-table discussion titled "Bilingualism in the Modern World" was held at the Faculty of Russian Philology, Yerevan State University.
The event brought together lecturers and students from the YSU Faculty of Russian Philology, as well as representatives of other universities from Armenia and Russia. The purpose of the round table was to discuss the role of bilingualism in modern society from psycholinguistic, cultural, and social perspectives. The discussion was conducted in both in-person and online formats.
The first part of the event was dedicated to presentations by lecturers. Speakers included members of the Chair of Russian Linguistics, Typology, and Communication Theory of the YSU Faculty of Russian Philology, as well as faculty representatives from the Vanadzor State University named after Hovhannes Tumanyan. The participants focused on the relationship between language and thought, the issue of bilingualism and cognition within the context of psycholinguistics and cognitive science, speakers' cognitive flexibility, and the speed of switching from one language to another.
In the second part of the discussion, students presented their research, covering a broad range of topics—from psycholinguistics to sociolinguistics. Their studies examined the influence of bilingualism on thinking, the peculiarities of bilingual practices in society, as well as bilingualism and speech development in children.
