On January 23 of this year, on the eve of Russian Students' Day, a ceremonial event dedicated to Tatiana Day—a major celebration in the university calendar—was held at the Yerevan Branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The history of Tatiana Day dates back to January 25, 1755, when the decree establishing Moscow University was signed. Since then, this date first became the university's founding day and later evolved into a symbol of Russian student life, embodying the continuity of academic traditions, respect for knowledge, and the values of university life.
The participants of the event were welcomed by Zhan Baginyan, Deputy Executive Director for Academic Affairs at the Yerevan MSU Branch. In his address, he emphasized the special atmosphere of the celebration and the significance of university traditions, stating: "Tatiana Day is a celebration of unity, high spirits, and respect for academic culture. After the exam period, it is especially pleasant to celebrate together with medovukha—a traditional honey-based drink prepared in strict accordance with the recipe of MSU Rector, Academician V. A. Sadovnichy."
In connection with Russian Students' Day, Maxim Seleznyov, Counselor-Envoy of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Armenia, also congratulated the participants, highlighting the unifying significance of Tatiana Day and the role of young people in the development of Russian-Armenian relations.
The highlight of the event was the award ceremony for the "Best Student of the Year" category. Students who demonstrated outstanding academic performance, civic engagement, and active participation in educational and social projects were recognized with diplomas and commemorative gifts. Awards were presented to students from both Russian and Armenian universities across various fields, ranging from the humanities and philology to economics, management, informatics, and design.
Lusine Avetisyan, a fourth-year student at the YSU Faculty of Russian Philology and nominee for "Best Student of the Year", said: "This award is a great honor and, at the same time, a responsibility. Studying at the YSU Faculty of Russian Philology provides not only professional skills but also deep respect for the Russian language and culture. Receiving this award within the walls of the Yerevan MSU Branch allows me to feel connected to the university tradition. I will continue to develop and live up to my professors' trust."
The official program was followed by a concert. The Another Story Band performed for the guests, creating a festive atmosphere and reminding everyone that student years are not just about studying and exams, but also about friendship, creativity, and a vibrant array of memorable experiences.
