A solemn welcoming ceremony for first-year students took place in the auditorium of the 6th building of Yerevan State University. The attendees were greeted with a congratulatory message by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Associate Professor Karlen Khachatryan.
"Dear first-year students, today is a special day. September 1st has always symbolized a new beginning. For you, it is not only the start of a new academic year, but also the beginning of a new chapter in your lives.
You are here because you dared to dream and took the courageous step of following that dream. You succeeded and became students of the Faculty of Economics and Management at YSU, where you will embark on the most significant journey of your professional, academic, and personal development.
For over a century, Yerevan State University has been and continues to be the heart of Armenia’s educational and scientific life. Within these walls, generations of the country’s political, scientific, cultural, and economic elite have been educated and nurtured. The Faculty of Economics and Management, as part of this institution, also carries rich traditions. It has trained several generations of economists and managers, many of whom now lead government institutions, large businesses, and international organizations. You are now becoming part of that tradition.
One of the most valuable aspects of university life is the new connections and relationships that will accompany you throughout your lives. Be active, live a vibrant student life, take part in student initiatives, join various programs, and bring forth your own ideas. The student sitting next to you today may become your colleague or one of your closest friends tomorrow."
Citing the examples of Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, Mikayel Aramyants, and Alexander Mantashyants, the dean emphasized that perseverance, willingness to take risks, and the discovery of one’s own talents are critical factors on the path to success. Stressing the importance of student years in laying the foundation for a strong career, he urged first-year students to make the most of the opportunities offered by the university, to learn as much as possible from their lecturers, and to understand that what one must learn during these years will be difficult—or require significantly more effort—to recover later due to time constraints, lack of focus, or limited resources. The faculty’s academic and administrative staff are doing everything possible to provide students with a competitive education.
"Dear students, you have made the right choice by selecting professions that are in high demand around the world. Love your field, love the work you do. We are here to help you see the full charm and beauty of economics, management, and finance. We are doing our utmost to create a fair, efficient, and comfortable educational environment in the faculty. I wish that your student years become the most colorful, interesting, and productive period of your life. Congratulations on the occasion of September 1st. Welcome to YSU Faculty of Economics and Management," the dean concluded.
The first-year students were also welcomed by Deputy Deans Associate Professor Vardan Aleksanyan and Associate Professor Narine Mirzoyan; Head of the Chair of Economics and International Economic Relations, Associate Professor Grigor Hayrapetyan; Head of the Chair of Management and Business, Associate Professor Anna Hakobjanyan; Head of the Chair of Finance and Accounting, Associate Professor Gnel Sahakyan; and Head of the Chair of Mathematical Modeling in Economics, Associate Professor Alvard Kharatyan. They encouraged the students to study diligently and not to fear challenges.
Warm congratulatory remarks were also extended by Benik Balayan, President of the Student Council of the Faculty of Economics and Management, who advised students to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the university and to do everything in their power for the well-being and development of their homeland.
"We have all been admitted to YSU Faculty of Economics and Management to learn and acquire knowledge, and the faculty provides that opportunity. It is up to us to seize it. Knowledge is our greatest weapon, but in today’s world, it is not only important to possess knowledge, but also to know how to apply it."
As a third-year student, Benik Balayan encouraged students to use the upcoming years to discover their strengths, overcome their weaknesses, and strive for personal development each day. Highlighting the importance of communication and connections, the Student Council president once again invited all first-year students to become part of the most active student organization.
Welcome to YSU, welcome to our large and united family. May all your dreams come true within this family. Congratulations to all of you on becoming students of one of the core faculties of Yerevan State University. Wishing you a successful journey and a bright path ahead.
