The YSU Faculty of Economics and Management hosted a scholarly seminar within the framework of the research project "Challenges in the Development of International Transit Transport Routes of the Republic of Armenia" (code: 25RG-5B145), funded by the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia. During the seminar, Vahram Abrahamyan, Doctor of Economics and Professor, and Syuzanna Petrosyan, PhD in Economics, delivered a presentation.
The presentation focused on the key challenges facing Armenia's international transport routes, possible solutions, and development prospects. It examined the role of the transport sector in enhancing economic efficiency and national competitiveness, as well as the current state of transport development across different modes in Armenia and neighboring countries.
The speakers also presented findings on the performance assessment of Armenia's international transit transport routes, existing obstacles hindering their development, the regional transport system, and integration into international transport programs.
They also addressed the formation of main and alternative routes within the North–South and South–West international transport corridors, their comparative analysis, and economic feasibility assessment, referencing the New Silk Road transport initiative as a broader context. This discussion further highlighted Armenia's potential integration into major global transport projects. According to the research findings, routes involving Armenia are particularly efficient for freight transport along the South–West direction, with the most optimal corridor identified as China – Iran – Armenia – Georgia – Bulgaria – EU countries, contingent on the construction of the Armenia–Iran railway.
The seminar also discussed the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), arguing that for Armenia it is economically more advantageous to prioritize integration into the South–West direction. This option offers higher economic efficiency while also presenting comparatively lower security and political risks. Emphasis was placed on the importance of developing Armenia's transport system, strengthening logistics infrastructure, and expanding external railway connections.
The results of the grant project have been presented at international conferences, including the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference held at the Russian-Armenian University on November 5–6, 2025 ("Transformation of Management Theory and Practice in the 21st Century"), as well as the 6th International Conference held on March 13–14 at Southern Federal University in Rostov-on-Don ("Management Technologies in the Modern Economy: Trends and Prospects").
One scientific article based on the research findings is currently in the publication process and is expected to be released shortly in a reputable Scopus-indexed international journal. Another article has also been prepared for submission to a Scopus-indexed journal.
The seminar was attended by faculty members from various chairs as well as students. The event featured active academic discussion, a substantive question-and-answer session, and an exchange of ideas.
