Faculty members and students of the Yerevan State University Faculty of Law participated in the 7th International Youth Autumn School, titled "Environmental Sciences: Food Risk-Benefit Assessment - Leading EU Practices," held in Aghveran on October 2-4. The event was dedicated to the memory of A. Saghatelyan, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences and Professor. YSU representatives actively participated in the three-day program, delivering lectures on specialized topics, addressing current issues and sharing their expertise with students.
The autumn school aimed to introduce participants to modern scientific approaches to assessing the risks and benefits of food, food safety mechanisms, recent developments in food law and leading European Union practices. The program brought together representatives from various professional fields, providing an opportunity to examine food safety issues from an interdisciplinary perspective.
Complementary lectures were delivered by Olympia Geghamyan, Head of the A. Iskoyan Center for Environmental Law at the YSU Faculty of Law, PhD in Law and Associate Professor, and Meri Danielyan, a PhD student at the faculty and Assistant to a Judge of the Administrative Chamber of the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Armenia.
In her lecture titled "Legal Systems of Armenia and the EU and Food Security Regulations: Legal Frameworks and Interrelations," Olympia Geghamyan examined the main legal frameworks of Armenia, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the EU, as well as their interrelationships.
Meri Danielyan delivered a lecture titled "Legal Regulation of Food Safety: From Risk Assessment to State Oversight in the Armenia-EU Context (Consumer Rights)." She addressed the legal significance of risk assessment, state oversight mechanisms and consumer rights protection, presenting a systematic and interconnected approach to food safety regulation.
The autumn school's activities once again demonstrated that establishing an effective food safety system requires the coordinated application of knowledge from the natural sciences, scientific risk assessment, legal regulation and public administration mechanisms.
The International Youth Autumn School serves as an important platform for bringing together knowledge from the natural and legal sciences and fostering cooperation among young professionals.
