The Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University hosted Dr. Gurgen Petrosyan from Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany, who delivered a lecture titled "Contemporary Approaches to Combating Terrorism".
The lecture examined international legal frameworks for addressing terrorism, highlighting the critical role of international cooperation.
In the first part of the lecture, the speaker presented the historical origins of terrorism, discussed the reasons behind states' evasive behavior in defining terrorism, and highlighted the potential adverse consequences of the absence of a universally accepted definition of terrorism.
The lecture also addressed contemporary approaches to combating the financing of terrorism and the role of information technologies in both the execution and detection of terrorist activities.
During the discussion session, Anahit Arakelyan, lecturer at the Chair of Criminal Law, outlined national legislative approaches and analyzed several examples.
The lecture-discussion provided students with an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and develop skills regarding contemporary processes in combating terrorism within the legal context.
