On March 16 and 18, roundtable discussions were held at the A. Iskoyan Environmental Law Center at the YSU Faculty of Law, with the participation of representatives from leading institutions in the field of environmental protection.
At the March 16 discussion, the Head of the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body, H. Martirosyan, addressed, among other issues, the enhancement of the effectiveness of environmental oversight. He noted that the inspection body has recently implemented a number of reforms aimed at improving monitoring mechanisms, preventing violations, and ensuring greater transparency in the sector. At the same time, existing challenges were highlighted, particularly the large number of entities subject to inspection.
On March 18, the center hosted H. Mkrtchyan, Director of the Environmental Impact Expertise Center under the Ministry of Environment, along with chief expert H. Frunzikyan. They led a detailed discussion over environmental impact assessment and expert review, as well as challenges arising in the implementation process. Emphasis was placed on the importance of ensuring greater transparency and substantiation at all stages of assessment, improving the quality of submitted documentation, and enhancing public participation. The discussion also addressed challenges encountered during the expert review process, including the preparation of professional conclusions, adherence to deadlines, and the need to ensure effective cooperation among various stakeholders.
The events were attended by bachelor's and master's students of the Faculty of Law, who gained first-hand insight into the functions, achievements, and challenges of the sector.
During the meetings, the importance of continuous cooperation between the aforementioned institutions and the A. Iskoyan Environmental Law Center was underscored, particularly in the context of training future specialists and jointly addressing sectoral issues.
Such meetings are highly valued as an effective platform for combining theoretical knowledge with practical experience, thereby developing students' professional outlook and a deeper understanding of the field.
The center plans to continue such initiatives, further strengthening cooperation with state institutions and promoting students' active involvement in professional discussions.
