The team of the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University successfully participated in the prestigious international moot court competition organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held from December 2025 to March 26, 2026, thereby reaffirming YSU's strong standing on international academic platforms.
The YSU team was represented by Lusine Zakaryan, a fourth-year bachelor's student at the Faculty of Law, and Satenik Khechumyan, a first-year master's student. The team was coached by Arpine Hovhannisyan, PhD in Law and Associate Professor.
The competition, regarded as one of the most competitive and prestigious programs in the field of intellectual property law, brought together more than 200 university teams from around the world this year. It comprised several stages, including video submissions, the preparation of written legal briefs, and virtual oral hearings.
The 2026 case problem concerned a fictional legal dispute between two competing drone manufacturing companies, addressing complex and contemporary issues in intellectual property law, including patent law, trademark protection, trade secrets, and cross-border enforcement.
The virtual oral round was structured to simulate real court proceedings, requiring participants not only to demonstrate in-depth legal knowledge, but also to exhibit strong analytical skills, persuasive advocacy, and strategic thinking.
As a result of the competition, the YSU team achieved a score of 80.3 points, placing 27th among more than 200 participating teams. Notably, teams advancing to the final round exceeded a threshold of 85.6 points, highlighting the exceptionally competitive nature of the competition, where rankings were determined by only a few points.
This achievement once again underscores YSU Faculty of Law's strong international engagement, high educational standards, and the competitiveness of its future legal professionals on the global stage.
