A study visit to Germany for young Armenian legal professionals was organized from July 5 to 10 as part of the cooperation between the YSU Faculty of Law and the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).
The delegation comprised young legal professionals who had participated in moot court competitions organized jointly by the YSU Faculty of Law and IRZ. They represented Yerevan State University, the French University in Armenia, Shirak State University and Vanadzor State University.
To learn about Germany's justice system and the work of its research institutions, acquire new knowledge and develop new perspectives and insights into the field, the participants visited a number of institutions, including:
Düsseldorf Regional Court, where Presiding Judge Dr Vera Drees delivered a presentation;
the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia, where Senior Adviser Dr Christian Reitemeier and Adviser Stephan Hackert gave a presentation on higher legal education;
the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor's Office, where Prosecutor Radbod Rad spoke about the functions and structure of Germany's public prosecution service;
Düsseldorf Police;
the Higher Regional Court of Cologne, where Vice-President Susanne Wernerus and Presiding Judge Miriam Müller delivered presentations;
the Cologne Public Prosecutor General's Office, where Ulrich Klose, Chair of the Prosecutors' Council, delivered a presentation;
Cologne Regional Court;
Rheinbach Prison; and
the Heidelberg branch of the Baden-Württemberg Probation and Court Assistance Service.
The participants also visited the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law (MPI), where Dr Matthias Hartwig delivered a presentation, and the Faculty of Law at Heidelberg University, where Dean Professor Dr Andreas Piekenbrock addressed the delegation.
During the visit, the participants were hosted at the IRZ office, where they met IRZ Director Dr Stefan Hülshörster and other representatives. Prof. Dr. Bijan Nowrousian gave a presentation at IRZ on the structure and organization of a university of applied sciences.
Study visits of this kind are intended to enhance students' professional preparation and enable them to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.
Cooperation with the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) will continue.
