From science to cultural dialogue: SSS 12th International Conference concludes at YSU
Yerevan State University hosted the 12th International Youth Conference of the YSU Student Scientific Society (SSS) on October 5-9, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia. The conference received 296 applications, including 54 from abroad. Following academic review, 182 participants were selected, including 32 young researchers from abroad.
The conference's official opening ceremony took place on October 5 at the Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall. YSU SSS President Davit Sargsyan formally opened the conference, while YSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Elina Asriyan welcomed the participants.
During the ceremony, members who had made significant contributions to the SSS's establishment and development were awarded the title of Honorary Member of the society. An exhibition titled "SSS-79" then opened in YSU's main building, where faculty teams presented their work. Interactive activities and games drew particular interest from international guests.
Beginning October 6, the conference continued across 14 sections organized by faculty-level SSS units, covering 19 academic fields. Participants presented their research and visited the ARARAT Yerevan Brandy Factory, the History Museum of Armenia, and the Armenian Genocide Memorial and Museum-Institute.
The conference also featured three thematic panel discussions: "COP17: Science, Law and International Cooperation," "Armenia's Path to Independence: Choice and Responsibility," and "Culture's Role in Nation's Identity and Development."
Conference participants and SSS members also visited the Zvartnots Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, the Sardarapat Battle Memorial, the Armenian Ethnography Museum, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, and the Alex and Marie Manoogian Treasury Museum.
The conference program also included cultural events. At Machanents House, participants were introduced to Armenian folk songs, traditional dances and cuisine. International guests, in turn, showcased aspects of their countries' cultures through performances reflecting their national traditions.
The conference concluded on October 9 with a closing ceremony at the Matenadaran. YSU SSS President Davit Sargsyan presented SSS bronze medals to members of the society. All researchers who delivered presentations at the conference received certificates, while the top presenters from the various sections also received symbolic gifts from the SSS. Certificates were also awarded to members of the teams responsible for organizing the conference.
The 12th International Youth Conference of the YSU Student Scientific Society provided a platform for academic dialogue, knowledge exchange and the expansion of international connections among young researchers from Armenia and abroad.
