Regional criminological conference held at YSU: Perspectives and challenges in combating crime
On September 25–26, the Faculty of Law at Yerevan State University, in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), hosted an international conference titled "Regional Criminological Conference: Perspectives and Challenges in Combating Crime," in YSU Balian Hall.

The conference program covered a wide range of topical issues, including "Contemporary Criminal Policy," "Reforms in the Penitentiary System," "State Responses to Organized Crime," "Criminal Subculture in Correctional Institutions," "Challenges in the Implementation of Alternative Sanctions," and "The Role of Media in Shaping Perceptions of Crime."

Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Harutyun Khachikyan, welcomed the participants and noted that the conference serves as a unique platform for discussing both the pressing issues of crime prevention and modern approaches to addressing emerging challenges.
"The fight against crime has always been a relevant issue at every stage of human history. Today, in the era of advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, it is even more critical," he emphasized.
The conference featured prominent scholars, including: Professor Till Zimmermann, Chair of Criminal Law at the University of Düsseldorf, Professor Torsten Verrel, Director of the Criminological Seminar and the Institute for Medical Law at the University of Bonn, Johannes Gereons, DAAD lecturer at YSU, Professor Bachana Jishkariani, Director of the Institute of German and International Criminal Law in Georgia, and Professor Moris Shalikashvili from Tbilisi State University.
The scholarly presentations provided comparative analyses of current issues in the field and explored possible solutions, underscoring the overall effectiveness and value of the conference.
