YSU journal Translation Studies: Theory and Practice receives Q3 ranking and indexed in Web of Science
The journal Translation Studies: Theory and Practice, published by Yerevan State University, has achieved a significant milestone, strengthening its position in international scientometric databases. According to the latest 2025 data from the SCImago Journal & Country Rank portal, the journal has been assigned a Q3 quartile ranking based on Scopus data.
The first issue of Translation Studies: Theory and Practice (Editor-in-Chief Ruzan Ghazaryan, Head of the YSU Chair of Translation Theory and Practice) was published in 2021. Notably, the journal bypassed the lowest quartile (Q4) and was placed directly into Q3.
According to Ashot Gevorgyan, Executive Editor for English-language publications at YSU Press, this ranking reflects four to five years of consistent, high-quality work by the editorial team in line with international standards.
"Citations from other reputable journals played a decisive role in improving the journal's ranking. In 2025, the journal was indexed in Scopus, and in 2026 it was included in the Web of Science database," he said.
Gevorgyan also highlighted the journal's broad international reach: "The geographical diversity of contributors is considerable. Research articles have been published by authors from the United States, China, France, Italy, Lithuania, Ukraine, Georgia, and other countries. The journal also maintains close cooperation with the universities in Verona and Lyon."
Emphasizing the importance of inclusion in Web of Science, he added: "In recent years, the selection process for indexing has become significantly more stringent. In the first four months of 2026 alone, around 40 journals were indexed, reflecting increasingly rigorous criteria. In April, only 13 journals were selected, including Translation Studies: Theory and Practice."
He further noted that Web of Science continuously monitors the quality of indexed journals to ensure compliance with high international standards. As such, the inclusion of Translation Studies: Theory and Practice should be regarded as a significant achievement, confirming its adherence to strict academic and publishing requirements.
"I would also like to note that SCImago Journal & Country Rank serves as an important decision-making tool for researchers, universities, and academic institutions, helping them assess publication quality and select appropriate platforms for disseminating research findings," Gevorgyan concluded.
Translation Studies: Theory and Practice is the first YSU journal to be progressively indexed in major international databases. Its Q3 ranking will remain valid for one year.
