Alternative dispute resolution in financial sector introduced as new educational platform
A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the YSU Faculty of Law and the Office of the Financial System Mediator, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the university and professional institutions, enhancing students' practical skills, and making legal education more practice-oriented.
The Financial System Mediator is one of the key mechanisms of alternative dispute resolution, with a core mandate to ensure the prompt, effective, and free resolution of claims submitted by individuals and micro-entrepreneurs against financial organizations. The cooperation is expected to provide students with deeper insight into the practical aspects of the field and involve them in real-world professional processes.
Dean of the YSU Faculty of Law Harutyun Khachikyan emphasized that the cooperation reflects the demands of modern legal education, where theoretical knowledge must be combined with practical experience.
"In legal education today, there is a need to develop an effective culture of cooperation between theory and practice. Our goal is not only to provide high-quality theoretical knowledge but also to equip students with practical skills. Such cooperation enables students to apply their knowledge in real working environments and become better prepared to enter the professional field," the dean said.
He also noted that graduates of the YSU Faculty of Law have for years demonstrated strong professional preparedness across various sectors of public life, and that cooperation between the university and its alumni continues. According to the dean, the signing of the memorandum also institutionalizes this ongoing cooperation.
Vazgen Mnatsakanyan, Principal Mediator and Chief Executive of the Office of the Financial System Mediator, said: "This cooperation is important not only for organizing practical work, but also for developing a financial education culture. Today, alongside technological developments, the risks of financial fraud have also increased, making public awareness a priority. We value student involvement and are pleased that these processes will continue on a more institutional basis together with the YSU Faculty of Law."
Within the framework of the memorandum, the parties plan to organize professional discussions, implement educational programs, arrange internships, and launch joint initiatives aimed at enhancing students' professional competencies and strengthening the link between legal education and the professional environment.
