Representatives of the YSU Research Institute of Biology participated in the European Bioenergetics Conference (EBEC 2026) from August 22 to 27. One of the world's leading scientific forums in bioenergetics, the conference brought together around 400 scientists and researchers from different countries, providing a valuable platform for sharing new scientific findings, exchanging ideas and developing international cooperation.
The conference was attended by Professor Karen Trchounian, Director of the YSU Research Institute of Biology; Professor Anna Poladyan, Head of the Chair of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology; Heghine Gevorgyan, Liana Vanyan and Anahit Shirvanyan, researchers at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Bioenergetics and Biotechnology; and PhD students Lilit Grigoryan, Liana Anikyan and Anushik Babayan.
Alongside plenary lectures, presentations and poster sessions, the conference provided opportunities for valuable scientific discussions and the exchange of new ideas.
The YSU team presented research on a range of topics, from E. coli pH resistance mechanisms and carbon utilization pathways to yeast bioenergetics, ion fluxes and the regulation of cellular metabolism.
EBEC 2026 was not only an important scientific experience for YSU researchers but also a valuable opportunity to present their research on an international platform, strengthen cooperation, establish new ties and enrich their research activities with new ideas.
The conference program also included a cultural component. Through intercultural communication and museum visits, participants gained sociocultural impressions alongside their scientific experience.
YSU researchers expressed their gratitude to the organizers of EBEC 2026, the RA MoESCS Higher Education and Science Committee, and all supporting organizations for promoting research activities and international scientific cooperation.
