On March 30, the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) hosted a conference on Armenian studies dedicated to the memory of renowned scholar and Armenologist Professor Karlen Mirumyan.
As part of the event, the Institute for Armenian Studies at Yerevan State University, in collaboration with the Karlen Mirumyan Chair of Political Science at RAU, organized a roundtable discussion under the theme "Interdisciplinary Nature of Contemporary Armenian Studies".
Speakers at the event included Garnik Asatryan, Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at RAU; Suren Manukyan, Head of the Dadryan Department of Comparative Genocide Studies at the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute; Ashot Yengoyan, Head of the Department for the Study of Armenian-Russian Relations at the YSU Institute for Armenian Studies; and Hovhannes Sargsyan, Head of the Karlen Mirumyan Department of Political Science at RAU and senior researcher at the Department for the Study of Armenian-Russian Relations at the YSU Institute for Armenian Studies.
The presenters addressed the prospects for the development of Armenian studies, outlined the goals of modern Armenian studies, and emphasized the importance of an interdisciplinary approach. They also highlighted the challenges and issues facing this academic field. The discussions underscored the vital role of Armenian studies in strengthening statehood, shaping the identity of the Armenian people, identifying internal and external challenges, and practically contributing to the resolution of national security and existential issues.
The event concluded with an active and engaging discussion among participants.
