A training course for penitentiary service staff on "Combating Human Trafficking and Protecting Victims' Rights in Penitentiary System" was held at the Robert Schumann Hall of the YSU Centre for European Studies.
The course was organized through cooperation between the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, the YSU Centre for European Studies, and the Centre for the Implementation of Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programs of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.
Participants were welcomed by Lilit Mirzoyan, Deputy Director of the YSU Centre for European Studies; Gevorg Simonyan, Director of the Centre for the Implementation of Legal Education and Rehabilitation Programs; and Arman Gasparyan, Program Officer at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.
The training was conducted by Sergey Ghazinyan, an expert at the YSU Centre for European Studies. The program addressed the nature of human trafficking and exploitation, their definitions under domestic and international law, the components and stages of trafficking, as well as issues related to distinguishing between human trafficking, exploitation, and forced labour.
Separate attention was given to international human rights protection standards, including the case law of the European Court of Human Rights, the Nelson Mandela Rules, and the European Prison Rules.
The course included practical exercises enabling participants to apply the acquired knowledge in a professional context.
At the conclusion of the training, participants underwent an assessment, after which certificates were awarded.
