A scientific seminar on the topic "Migration of Highly Skilled Labor as a Macroeconomic Risk in the Context of Regional Development: The Case of Armenia" was held at the YSU Faculty of Economics and Management.
The seminar featured a presentation by Associate Professor Grigor Hayrapetyan, Head of the Chair of Economics and International Economic Relations, who shared the findings of his research.
Addressing the issue of labor migration, Hayrapetyan noted that the rate of highly skilled labor migration in Armenia is the highest among the region's countries, including Azerbaijan, Iran, Turkey, and Georgia. According to his study, the emigration of highly qualified professionals in Armenia is largely not driven by economic factors. At the same time, it was emphasized that, in the long term, the migration of highly skilled labor could negatively impact the country's economy. In this context, establishing an appropriate institutional environment was highlighted as crucial to mitigate potential negative effects and promote positive outcomes.
The seminar concluded with an active discussion, during which participants raised questions regarding the definition of highly skilled labor, the research methodology, and the potential positive impacts of migration.
Attendees included faculty members and postgraduate students from YSU.
The YSU Faculty of Economics and Management continues its series of scientific seminars. These sessions are open to participation by the faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students from both YSU and other universities across Armenia.
