MIT student undertakes internship at Pharmacy Institute
Tamsin Horne, a student from the United States, is currently undertaking a two-month internship at the Scientific-Educational Center for Drug Quality Control and Monitoring at the Institute of Pharmacy, as part of the collaboration between Yerevan State University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Tamsin Horne, a first-year chemistry student at MIT, chose YSU to enhance her profession-specific skills, as well as explore Armenia and its culture.
"I study chemistry at MIT, and currently, I am conducting laboratory work at YSU Institute of Pharmacy. Here, I have had the opportunity to apply my theoretical knowledge while acquiring practical skills in different aspects of laboratory work. In particular, I have gained hands-on experience with several high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) machines, carried out sample preparation, and used software tools for data processing and analysis," said Horne.
She emphasized that she is currently involved in a research project focused on the development and validation of a method for determining the concentration of vitamin C in plant extracts.
"For instance, I am taking part in a research project aimed at developing a precise method for quantifying vitamin C in extracts of rosehip, sea buckthorn, and other plants. Our experiments confirmed that the chosen method is highly sensitive, accurate, and reliable. Upon completion of the work, we will prepare a comprehensive report detailing our findings," the student explained.
Tamsin Horne is a participant in the MISTI (MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives) Eurasia program. MISTI is MIT’s global applied learning program, offering students and graduates the opportunity to work in foreign countries. MIT considers international work experience an integral part of a well-rounded education.
At the Institute of Pharmacy, Tamsin Horne is working under the supervision of Lusine Sahakyan, an expert at the Scientific-Educational Center for Drug Quality Control and Monitoring.
