Iranian studies as a link between YSU and Cambridge University: International Conference on Persian Language and Literature kicks off
The 5th International Conference on Teaching Persian Language and Literature has commenced at Yerevan State University, initiated by the Chair of Iranian Studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, in collaboration with the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Cambridge. The conference primarily aims to create a platform for presenting innovative methods in teaching Persian language and literature, while fostering collaboration between lecturers and experts.

The two-day international conference focuses on the application of modern technologies in education, especially artificial intelligence. Additionally, panel discussions are being held, providing participants with the opportunity to analyze challenges in teaching methodologies and the positive and negative impacts of technology.

Ruben Melkonyan, Dean of YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies, underscored the significance of Iranian studies within Armenian studies, stating: "Armenia has been a center for Oriental studies long before its de jure formation. Situated in the East, we have continuously explored this field. While some countries are strong in military or political domains, Armenia is also strong in Oriental studies. This strength has been built thanks to our experts who have preserved traditions passed down through centuries. Iranian studies is one of the most important branches of Oriental studies and, thanks to our partners, continues to thrive at a high level of development. I am pleased that our chair, under the leadership of Professor Vardan Voskanyan, is progressing in step with global science."

Professor Vardan Voskanyan, Head of the Chair of Iranian Studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, highly valued the long-standing cooperation between YSU and the University of Cambridge:
"For several years now, our faculty has been closely collaborating with the University of Cambridge in the field of Persian language and Iranian studies education. This cooperation gave rise to the idea of holding the 5th session of this conference — which until now was exclusively held at Cambridge — here at YSU. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to explore international Iranian studies schools and to understand the latest directions in the field," he noted.

Mahbod Ghaffari, Associate Professor at the University of Cambridge, highlighting not only the opportunity for academic collaboration but also for establishing friendly ties, remarked: "It would be impossible to organize this event without the vision, dedication, and cooperation of many people. This conference is not only about presentations and discussions but also about conversations in the hallways, new ideas, pleasant surprises, and networking. Let us make these two days not only productive but also inspiring and memorable."
The conference has brought together scholars and specialists not only from YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies but also from the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Serbia, Canada, Georgia, Iran, the USA, and several other countries.
The conference will continue tomorrow.
