Center for Psychological Education and Counseling officially opens at YSU Ijevan Branch
The Center for Psychological Education and Counseling is the first specialized platform in the region that unites science, education, and community. The center is designed to support the preservation of mental health, the realization of individual potential, and the improvement of societal well-being by providing both counseling and educational programs.

The event was attended by YSU Ijevan Branch Director Mher Otaryan, YSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Elina Asriyan, Vice-Rector for Development and Innovation Mikayel Hovhannisyan, Deputy Governor of Tavush Narek Ghushchyan, representatives of the university’s academic staff, students, and organizations active in the psychological and social fields.
YSU Ijevan Branch Director Mher Otaryan opened the event with a speech, addressing the concept behind the establishment of the center. He noted that the center is intended to complement the university’s scientific, educational, and community missions while responding to the growing demand in the region for psychological support and counseling services.
"This center is not only a professional but also an important human support platform for our province, which will contribute to raising public awareness, psychological intelligence, and overall quality of life," he emphasized.
Head of the center Laura Petrosyan, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor, spoke about the center’s mission, objectives, and main areas of activity, stressing that the primary goal of the institution is to reveal human potential, preserve mental health, and improve quality of life. The center plans to offer individual and group counseling as well as professional training.
YSU Vice-Rectors Elina Asriyan and Mikayel Hovhannisyan highlighted the center’s importance within YSU’s regional development strategy and its key role in shaping students’ practical skills and promoting research activities.
Ruben Aghuzumtsyan, Professor, PhD in Psychology, from YSU Ijevan Branch Chair of Pedagogy and Psychology, along with students of the "Psychology" educational program, spoke about the center’s significance and expressed their readiness to support its activities. Professor Aghuzumtsyan expressed confidence that this institution will become a bridge of cooperation between the university, community, and professional organizations.
At the end of the event, guests toured the center, familiarized themselves with available services and material-technical conditions, and interacted with the center’s specialists and students.
YSU Ijevan Branch Center for Psychological Education and Counseling is the region’s only specialized institution offering science-based, accessible psychological services focused on unlocking individual potential, fostering self-awareness, and promoting mental well-being.
