Optics and Photonics Center opens at YSU: Prime minister introduced to ongoing scientific research The opening ceremony of the newly established Optics and Photonics Center at YSU Institute of Physics took place with the participation of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. The event was also attended by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee Artur Movsisyan, the university’s leadership, as well as staff members of the institute and the new center. During the visit, the prime minister toured several of YSU’s leading scientific laboratories, learning more about ongoing research projects, technological capacities, and established infrastructure.
Micro-credentials open new pathways in higher education development The latest workshop of the EU Erasmus+ MICRO-GEAR has commenced at YSU Academic Council Session Hall. The project aims to support structural reforms in the education sector by facilitating the widespread adoption of micro-credentials within higher education systems, particularly in Armenia and Georgia.

Countries that cooperated with these communities greatly benefited—a fact supported by extensive historical evidence, much of which predates well-known accounts involving prominent 20th-century figures such as Charles Aznavour, Missak Manouchian, and others. This point is emphasized by Professor Haykaz Hovhannisyan from YSU Faculty of History, who has studied documents preserved at the Matenadaran Museum and the National Archives of Armenia—materials which, according to him, have remained unexamined until now.
Cultural dimensions in teaching Arabic: International conference held at YSU An international conference titled “Social and Cultural Dimensions in Teaching Arabic” commenced in the Ferdowsi Hall of YSU Faculty of Oriental Studies. During the event, scholars from various universities across Europe, Russia, and Armenia engaged in discussions on the interplay between social and cultural factors shaping the processes of teaching and learning Arabic. The participants addressed the impact of diglossia on linguistic diversity in Arabic-speaking societies, explored methodologies for incorporating dialects and cultural elements into language instruction, and assessed the influence of these components both on teaching practices and the overall learning experience. The conference was organized by the Chair of Arabic Studies with financial support from the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation.
Trilateral memorandum signed to promote development and strengthening of justice system A trilateral memorandum was signed at Yerevan State University, aiming to unite the efforts of academic and state institutions in addressing the legal and psychological challenges within the Penitentiary Service of Armenia. The parties to the cooperation are the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Philosophy and Psychology, and the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.
Conference titled "History Teachers and the Future of Historiography" launched at YSU A two-day educational conference titled "History Teachers and the Future of Historiography" has commenced at YSU Faculty of History. The event aims to re-evaluate the connections between secondary and higher education in historiography, address current challenges in teaching history, and foster an academic dialogue between universities and schools.
New language, new country, new opportunity: Foreign students complete preparatory courses at YSU A year ago, three young students from China and Iran could hardly have imagined that Armenian would become their everyday spoken language, that the roads and streets leading to Yerevan State University would grow familiar and dear, and that the university itself would become a key academic institution in their lives. The course, which began on October 1, 2024, was organized by YSU International Cooperation Office.
Fairy-tale atmosphere at YSU ahead of Children's Day In anticipation of Children’s Day, a colorful and enchanting event was held at YSU Library named after Sarkis and Marie Izmirlian. Designed especially for children, the celebration was filled with a joyful atmosphere, smiles, creative excitement, and a variety of educational, exploratory, and developmental activities.
YSU as a platform for developing academic relations between Armenia and Iran Ali Akbar Salehi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran and President of Iranology Foundation based in Tehran, was hosted at Yerevan State University. During his visit, he met with YSU Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and the Oriental Studies Faculty’s academic staff. They discussed opportunities for the development of Armenian-Iranian academic relations, focusing particularly on avenues to deepen cooperation in Iranian studies, oriental Studies, and international relations.
