At YSU Research Center-Library of Greek Studies, guest lecturer Konstantina Sotiropoulou delivered a presentation dedicated to one of Greece's most significant national holidays — Ohi Day (Όχι Day).
The speaker emphasized that this historic day marks one of the most crucial moments in Greece's history. On October 28, 1940, Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas rejected the Italian ultimatum demanding free access for Italian troops into Greek territory for military purposes. Metaxas's response was brief yet resolute: "Οχι" — meaning "No." This word became a symbol of Greece's resistance and love of freedom.
"That is why October 28 is, for the Greek people, not only a day of military triumphs but also a celebration of freedom, national unity, and dignity," she noted.
During the seminar, participants also had the opportunity to discuss their questions with Konstantina Sotiropoulou and receive comprehensive answers.
